2011 Asian Cup Final Kicks Off

It's perhaps even valid to suggest that Australia's entry into the AFC has been the catalyst for their growth: with more challenging teams like South Korea and Japan to play against, it has been possible to build team tactics and skills. In fact, Japan are their main opponents in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup final. Both sides will be keen to win the tournament: Australia want to prove themselves, Japan want to grab a record fourth title. The tournament has been relatively plain sailing, making this one of the most successful Australia tours.

This year's AFC cup was held in Qatar, a move that many have seen as an early preparation for the future 2022 World Cup that they will host. Whilst the venues were widely lauded, praise was also forthcoming for the hosts' performance. Japan ended Qatar's hopes in the Quarter Finals, but only after a back and forth 3-2 scoreline that hinged on a last minute goal from Masahiko Inoha. Meanwhile, Australia were particularly keen to perform in the 2011 AFC final. Australia will host the 2015 Asian Cup and the opportunity to defend the title on home soil would create a far more interesting event for those on Australia holidays. Australia have the chance to not only make it big, but to stay in that position for years to come. It's all dependent on momentum: in the higher profile AFC, and with a better chance at the World Cup, they're going to stop losing high-profile players to other national sides, as they've been prone to doing in the past.

The Weather Outside is Frightful, But Video Games are AWESOME

Why shouldn't we stay inside if the weather's going to be really lame? Gamers usually have plenty to do; with the recent release of the Kinect or, if you're a Playstation 3 owner, the Playstation Move, there's plenty of new technology to be explored. The old (well, comparatively) faithful Wii is still an option if you're that way inclined; fun games are still steadily being released with each passing month. So if you can't (or don't want to) go outside, here are a few of the crazier things you could try in order to pass the time.

Blindfolded Wii Games

Be careful with this one; make sure there's nothing nearby that you might wildly swing into in your enthusiasm (it's like pinatas all over again). This one works best with one of the Wii games compilations (like Wii Sports etc); if you try this with something like Metroid it become less funny and more sad.

Backwards Races

Any driving game will do; you just need to try and do the course in reverse. The game will not like this and try and make you go the "right" way; FIGHT THE POWER!

Do you or someone you love have a video games addiction?

I have been wondering recently if my brother might be struggling with gaming addiction.

He sits up until the early hours playing Wii games such as CoD or PC games such as WoW and can't drag himself out of bed in the morning. He even fell asleep whilst he was in a university lecture the other day! My brother also isn't very sociable and doesn't see much interaction other than those "friends" he'll play games with online.

Not knowing the criteria for spotting an addiction to video games, I turned to the internet which pointed to 5 main behavioural traits to keep an eye out for...

1. Do you notice a significant different in your happiness levels between those time that you are video gaming and those time that you are not? Are you angry and upset when something interrupts your gaming session?
2. Do you spend significantly more time attached to your keyboard or gaming pad as opposed to seeing friends and family? Social interaction is important for our mental happiness.
3. Do you think about or actually - play video games when you have other things that your should be focusing on like a job or course work? Do you fall behind on your responsibilities often?
4. Are you untruthful regarding what you spend your time doing? Are you worried secretly that you have an addiction?
5. Are you having difficulty falling asleep at night? Too much adrenaline before settling down for the night can make it really difficult to settle down.

From this, it would seem that it is highly possible that my brother has an addiction to video gaming. My mum think that is probably just a habit he enjoys and that he will grow out of it as he gets older. Let's hope this is the case...

Would a gaming addiction to a motion controlled game like Kinect be thought of as problem? If anything, surely it would just make the gamer in question extremely fit?
