Super Bowl Party Tips | How to Keep from Overheating!

Having the Super Bowl shindig at your place? Got 20-25 people coming to watch it in your 600 square foot recreation room? Make arrangements now to keep you and your party goers from overheating. A crowd like that in a small space will create overheating issues quickly. Begin with a room at 70F; add in 20 enthusiastic friends cheering and the temp will jump to 85F in a very short time, which could be a Superbowl party killer! It will feel like your household heating system is on full speed if you don't prepare in advance! Check out these tested tips to keep from heating up your home and your party guests.

1. Cook as much as you can ahead of time. Avoid use an oven while friends are there, unless it is well clear of the room the game is on. Using the outdoor grill is a great option too. If your friends are bringing heated dishes, ask them to bring it in a crock pot and then plug it in the garage or a storage room away from the action until it's time to eat it.

2. Drop the thermostat to 55F a few hours ahead of time. It takes a home quite a while to cool down because everything in the house interior walls, the floor and ceiling, furniture and cabinets, all hold heat that will continue to radiate out of them. If you have a specific game room for the celebration, it may be worth the effort to hire an HVAC contractor to drop into your home and add a vent or two for cooling.

3. If it's a hot afternoon, draw the curtains to block solar heating in the area.

4. Open a couple of windows for ventilation if it starts getting hot, or run your gas heat cooling system on low, or fan only, without heat. Creating airflow will disperse some of the heat.

5. Keep a good supply of water and juices on hand, not just soft drinks and adult cocktail, that can lead to further dehydration. If you keep a well-stocked cooler of water bottles, you can always take a few around offering them to guests.

These easy tips will help you know how to keep from heating up even when the on-field action is furious!!
