Unique Party Theme Ideas for Your Summer Get Together

A princess theme for your daughters birthday party? Didn't 3 other girls in her class already do that? A luau theme for your big peoples party? Been there, done that and have the Hawaiian shirt, right?

Don't use one of these over-done themes, but select one that offers guests something unique.

These 6 themes for summer parties will put your party on the map this season for sure.

Summer Party Themes for Kids

Great Americans Theme

Why not have children dress up like a famous American they admire? Add in a bit of education and history along with fun. Offer prizes for best boy/girl costume as well as a prize for any child who is willing to give a 1-3 minute overview of their chosen American and why she or he was or is important.

Wildlife Theme

Get the kids to dress up as the zoo animal of their choice. Encourage parents to keep the costumes lightweight so children dont get overheated. This theme would be even better if you include a trip to an actual zoo! It will also help if your home is cool and comfortable when the gang returns for food, games and more fun. A central a/c in prime working order is a must!

Scientists

Get the kids to dress up like scientists, maybe one they have studied like Thomas Edison, or maybe Bill Nye the Science Guy. Plan a few science-related activities that will be fun and educational. Allow them to make a small volcano from play-doh or clay. Add in a teaspoon of baking soda and then pour in one ounce of vinegar. Off blows the volcano! They can help you make homemade ice cream and you can explain what the rock salt does. Learning is fun and tasty!

Summer Party Themes for Adults

Masquerade

The masquerade party theme was at one time very popular, and now are starting to come back into style. Be the first in your circle to host one. Everyone will enjoy a masked party this summer!

Victorian Theme

The setting for a Victorian picnic should be on your lawn. Have blankets and quilts to sit on. A wicker picnic basket, fine china and silver, chill your champagne and wrap it in newspaper to make sure it stays cold, and research popular Victorian foods to serve to your guests. With the women in dresses and corsets, be sure your home is decidedly un-Victorian. Have the central air conditioner running so gals that get a bit too warm have a place to cool off when they need it.

Wild West

Gunfighters, dance hall girls, cowboys, Indians, squaws¦What fun! Have cap guns and holsters for a fake showdown and have a contest to find the fastest gunfighter in the crowd. If you are able to swing it, decorate your home or yard like a saloon. Another idea similar to this theme would be to have your guests dress up like a favorite character from 1950's western television shows.

Even if there isn't a party theme here for you, maybe they will get your creative juices flowing. Choose something unique. Take risks! Invite fun people and enjoy the party!
