We've seen and noticed about therapy dogs. The loving working dogs that are brought around town-in hospitals, in care centres, in rehabilitation clinics, and many other places-to inspire those who are sick and also at times, the lonely. These are usually very informal set ups and are more of social visits to folks to support and enhance their spirits while they are trying to heal or even simply to go on their day to day life.
While therapy dogs can be any size and breed, probably none have yet attempted to introduce a dog wheelchair aided dog into the program. Some are planning that it could be a great idea. Normally, it will probably be important to choose a dog that has adjusted well to its new condition. A pet that is strong and healthy in spite of having lost the use of its hind limbs-maybe through an accident-and has taken wonderfully to utilizing its dog wheelchair. A pleased, perky dog can be an enjoyable, delightful, and positive example of what life has in store even when misfortune hits.
There will be a lot of challenges to undergo in doing this but the benefits may over-shadow them. Also, there are a lot of pet owners out there who welcome any chance to volunteer with open arms. Tight guidelines should first go together to make sure of the wellbeing of both the people the groups are attempting to get in touch with and also the volunteers. Or else, it'll defeat the purpose. Puppy owners must realize that getting a dog on a dog wheelchair will not mean automatic qualification. The goal here is to be able to help others, so the personality of our pets also needs to be suitable for that.
Additionally, as volunteer therapy dogs, entering a different environment may have a different effect on the pets. This is another thing one has to think about. How would they behave with others around in a setting that is new to them? Will they be as friendly, cute and calm or would they be snappish and hostile? While these are considerations further down the line, they are something to think about.
On the other hand, any sick child will probably be pleased to be cheered up by a cute dog, possibly one on a dog wheelchair. Besides, it's hard to turn away from a cute dog that persistently likes to catch your attention simply through consistently licking your face.
