The New Underworld Movie Starring Kate Beckinsale

Not appearing on the third movie, Kate Beckinsale is once again headlining the latest Underworld movie entitled The Awakening. Once again as Selene, Beckinsale has changed dramatically from the teen whom Kenneth Branagh pulled out of the Oxford University Dramatic Society to play a role in his movie Much Ado About Nothing. She is now more hard-hitting yet still lady-like. She can be the most beautiful vampire with those blue eyes and the trench coat. And the most fashionable, if I may say so.

Oh yes, she does it all. No man can match her fighting skills, or wolf for that matter. She can leap tall buildings. And still remain unscathed. She can even dodge a hundred bullets fired her way. Once hit by a bullet, the metal slug finds its away exiting the Beckinsale's body like a seed spewed out.

The story is set in a time when humans got wind of the existence of Lycans and vampires in their midst. They are now in the process of eliminating them. Beckinsale, a diamond stud earrings wearing girl named Selene, has been cryogenically frozen inside a lab operated by Stephen Rea. Yes, you guessed it; she came out of her ice casket and eventually found her way into the vampire's lair. The head of the vampire clan was skeptic at first about the presence of Selene. However, the vampire deity brings back the head's son back to life after he was killed by a new strain of more powerful Lycans. These hybrid Lycans were bred by Stephen Rea in the same lab where Selene lay frozen for so many years. For those who love blood and gore, you will see breaking glass and spurting blood almost every four minutes. The cinematography is amazingly European and the stunts realistic.

After a few movies in England which includes Cold Comfort Farm and Emma, Kate Beckinsale got tired of buying diamond stud earrings and decided to seek movie work in the United States. She was able to land roles in small scale dramas. Some of the shows that she acted in included Brokedown Palace and The last days of Disco. In 2001, her break came when she starred in the war hit movie Pearl Harbor. Afterwards, she did the romantic comedy Serendipity. Next came other box office hits such as The Aviator and the Adam Sandler comedy flick Click.

All of a sudden, she was transformed into an action figure with her appearance in the initial Underworld movie in 2003. Next came another action movie which features vampires as well, Van Helsing. 2006 came and she starred in the next Underworld with the subtitle Evolution. Other action movies came: Whiteout, Contraband, Haunted Montana properties for sale and now, the latest Underworld. She still got her share of drama like for instance Snow Angels in 2007. In 2008, she earned a Critic's Choice Award nomination for her role in the movie Nothing But The Truth.
