Aspects of an Authentic Sailor Moon Costume

Manga and anime is Japan's contribution to the world of entertainment. Mangakas, or Japanese cartoon artists as they are known in the west, created the stories and drew the characters. Pokemon is an example. Some of the most popular animes are geared toward a male audience, but there is a Japanese story that appeals to young girls as well: Sailor Moon.

Sailor Moon is a fantasy series that everyone watches for various reasons. In case you are not familiar with this series, its heroine is a girl in a sailor outfit. Japanese school girls often wear this outfit to school. The characters of Sailor Moon are mostly magic users. Anyone who likes Japanese art and fashion would love Sailor Moon.

Needless to say, most girls who love to put on costumes for events and even for Halloween are compelled to try a Sailor Moon ensemble at least once. The girls can roleplay as Sailor Moon and even show off the characteristic hand sign that the heroine does whenever she shows off her magic.

What Are the Elements of a Sailor Moon Costume?

Start with a white blouse with a sailor collar. If possible, the upper garment and the skirt should be the same color. How short shall the skirt be? It should be just above the knee. Skirts should be short and bouncy. The legs should be covered up to the knees with boots or socks.

A sailor moon ensemble is not complete without the hairstyle. Although a woman need not have long hair to re-create the now-famous Sailor Moon hair-do, to pony tails on both sides of the head are recommended.

Variation of Sailor Moon Costume: Chibi Moon

Chibi moon is considered a minor character, but she is nevertheless unforgettable. She is very girly and she wears more accessories than other Sailor Moon characters. She is a young and vibrant young lady and her costume shows off her personality. Head accessories are a must, and you can even wear heart cut-outs as accents.
