Holiday Gift Ideas: Television Box Sets

Jingle Bells

It is the holiday season once again. "Some Awful Version of Jingle Bells" is playing everywhere you go and just about everyone has their Christmas lights up. This means it's time to find Christmas gifts for your friends and family again!

Box sets make really good Christmas presents and each year there are new box sets coming out with CDs or DVDs. For example, this year the Remastered Lennon Signature CD Box Set came out to celebrate what should have been John Lennon's 70th birthday. This box set includes all of his solo albums in newly remastered mixes.

The Lost Complete Series BluRay Box Set also came out this year. Lost finished its run after six glorious years as one of the most suspenseful and surprising series in television history. It is a fantastic gift for everyone who is a fan of the show and an even better gift to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. I would love to be able to see it all for the first time once again!

A complete series box set really makes a good gift. Of course that is only true if it's a box set of a really good show! What follows are some of the television box sets that I suggest:

Twin Peaks. This show only lasted for two seasons and it's 20 years old now. But it's one of the greatest television shows ever in my opinion. If you know someone who likes weird things, this is the box set for them.

Freaks and Geeks. What is it with fantastic shows and getting canceled? This one only made it for one year. But it was a truly great one season. Every episode is a true classic. A really funny show with some good drama too.

HBO's Six Feet Under. This is a great selection for any intelligent family member or friend. I think this is among the greatest television programs ever. It is about the most serious subject matter (death) but it's also very amusing sometimes. (usually in a pretty dark sort of way.)

The Wire. Another brilliant HBO show. I won't even start talking about The Wire because it will probably just come out ridiculously over the top. I think this show is so good it's hard to put into words. An absolute "must see."

Seinfeld. Somehow these episodes can be seen over and over again and still be enjoyable. Could be a great gift for any younger person that missed it the first time around.
