Dead Space 2 Review

Last week the sequel to what was one of the most scary and also one of the most underrated console games ever was released. The Sequel is a follow on from the first game which pitted deep space engineer Issac Clark against armies of undead blood thirsty necromorphs. The only issue is for Issac, the hoards of Necromorphs that hounded him in the first game are back with a vengeance. Now Issac must escape the mental facility he was being held in and discover what happened to this new human colony.

There are very little alterations from the first offering in either the graphics or gameplay departments, aside from a few minor tweaks this is still the brilliant Dead Space experience we had first time around. The intuative, enjoyable controls remain, as does the necessity to cut the limbs off the advancing beasts. You use stasis to slow the beasts, kenisis to pick up random objects like sat nav system to lob at them, or the good old-fashioned weapons.

Weapons are one of the main attractions of the game, the variety and upgradability adds depth to the combat. Old favourites like the trusty Plasma Cutter return alongside newcomers like the Javelin gun, a device which launches razor sharp spears, pinning Necromorphs to the wall, secondary fire can be used to electrocute these spears turning their deformed bodies to a steaming, frazzled pile of alien ash. In fact Issac's arsenal contains everything short of a pressure washers.

The game is very well put together, just when you think you are safe a necromorph will burst through a nearby window emitting a shrill scream that sends fear through your body. If only the game had vehicles complete with parking sensors it would be very close to perfection.
